My Cat’s Diet

When my cat Luke was diagnosed with diabetes, I knew I had to completely rethink what I was feeding him.

After a lot of research (and some trial and error), I switched him to a low-carb, high-protein diet—and it made a huge difference.

These are the exact foods, treats, and products I used (and still use today).

No fluff. No nonsense. Just what worked for us ❤️

🥩 His Main Food

This was one of the biggest changes I made.

I focused on foods that were:

  • low in carbs
  • high in protein
  • moisture-rich

Weruva BFF OMG Chicken

Weruva Chicken Charge Me Up

This became one of Luke’s staples pretty quickly. I wanted something high in protein, low in carbs, and made with ingredients I actually felt good about feeding him.

Weruva BFF OMG Turkey

Weruva Chicken and Turkey

Luke really enjoyed the turkey varieties too, and I liked being able to rotate proteins a bit so he wasn’t eating the exact same thing every day.

Weruva BFF OMG Beef

Weruva Beef and Chicken

Another favorite in our rotation. At this point I started paying a LOT more attention to ingredients and carb content than I ever did before his diagnosis.

🍗 Simple Protein Treats

One thing I learned is that simple is usually better.

Plain Chicken Breast

Sometimes the best “treat” is just real food.

I’ll cook plain chicken breast for Luke, and he absolutely loves it. It’s high in protein and gives me peace of mind knowing exactly what he’s eating.

Canned Chicken Breast

This became a super convenient backup when I didn’t have cooked chicken ready.

I usually rinse it first to remove as much sodium as possible before giving it to him.

Definitely a lifesaver on busy days 😄

🐾 Treats

These have been one of my favorite low-carb treat options. Simple ingredients, high protein, and Luke goes absolutely crazy for them.

⚠️ What I Avoid Now

After learning more about feline nutrition, there are a few things I personally try to avoid now:

  • High-carb dry foods
  • Sugary treats
  • Foods loaded with fillers

I’m definitely not perfect, but I pay WAY more attention to ingredients now than I used to.

❤️ Final Thoughts

Every cat is different, but changing Luke’s diet completely changed the trajectory of his health.

If your cat is struggling with diabetes or weight issues, don’t underestimate how powerful nutrition can be.

Give your fur babies an extra hug for me ❤️
